Italy Scrooge Dollar$ and Fantastiliardi Dollars
Learn about Italy Notes created in 1969 and 1997
Two types of collectible notes came out of Italy. The first made in 1969, created in Italy by Elah Chewing Gum in collaboration with Disney, these Scrooge Dollar$ were issued in $, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 denominations. These Uniface Banknotes featured the members of the Donald Duck family and are from the imaginary Banca di Paperopoli (Bank of Duckburg).
Topolino is the Italian name for Mickey Mouse. It also happens to be a comic book series starring Disney characters that has been published since 1932 and continues to this day. In 1997, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (one of Italy’s largest banks) collaborated with Topolino to distribute Fantastiliardi (Italy Fantasy Dollars). The notes were minted by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato ( Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute) in denominations of 1, 10, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000. The educational collector’s booklet was used to store the whole collection.
