Recreation Coupons

Disney recreation coupons were a series of special dollar-denominated currency issued to guests at the start of Walt Disney World's opening in 1971 to promote the resort's recreational activities. While they were a real form of currency used at the time, they have since been discontinued and are now a vintage collectible, with the last series of Disney Dollars discontinued in 2016. Today, you can get discounts through the Annual Pass program or by using Disney Rewards Dollars from a Disney Visa Card.

Recreation Coupons

From a collector's standpoint, the vintage 1971 Walt Disney World recreation coupons are a treasured piece of "Disneyana," representing a snapshot of the park's early history and a precursor to the famous Disney Dollars. Unlike the cash-redeemable Disney Dollars that came later, these unique, larger-than-currency notes were issued in limited series for promotional purposes during Walt Disney World's opening year. Collectors value these notes based on their condition, rarity, and the nostalgia they evoke, with high-grade, uncirculated examples and those with sequential or low serial numbers fetching significant prices at auction. Their ephemeral nature, combined with their connection to the beginning of the iconic Florida theme park, makes them a highly sought-after and nostalgic find for serious Disney enthusiasts.
